Dental Implants

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are titanium posts that are surgically embedded into the jawbone. They act as artificial tooth roots for the replacement of missing natural teeth.

Dental implants replace an entire tooth, its crown and root. It is a permanent and natural looking alternative for those who have lost teeth.

One of the many benefits of dental implants are that they are as strong as a natural tooth root and it don’t rely on other teeth for support, as a restorative bridge does.

Receiving Dental Implants

Several important stages are involved in a dental implant process.

A consultation and thorough examination where we may also take detailed x-rays of your jawbone to ensure there is sufficient bone density to support your implant.

Surgical placement the implant into it’s ideal position. It is then left to naturally integrate with your jawbone. This can take between 3 – 6 months.

The abutment and replacement crown or bridge are then attached to your implant
once the implant has osseointegrated into the jaw bone. This completes the process and restores your beautiful smile.

Caring For Your Dental Implants

Whilst your dental implants are made from titanium and your crown, bridge or dentures are porcelain; you still need to care for your implants the same as your natural surrounding teeth and gums.

Brushing twice a day and flossing once a day, as well as regular check-up appointments with the Macquarie Dentists team every six months, will ensure your dental implants and new smile last for many years.
